Texas Foundation for Safer Children
A Project for Identifying and DNA sampling
children in our Texas Communities for their
Parents - 1,000 kids at a time.
It seems that almost everyday now, we either read a story in the
local paper or watch the TV newscast and learn that somewhere in
the country, a child has gone missing. This is without a doubt a
parent’s worst nightmare.  Sometimes the children are found safe
and sound, but more often than not, they either return abused,
injured or not at all. One of the most  agonizing processes for
parents to endure during the time that the child is missing is
having to provide some kind of photo record and current info to
give the local authorities to aid them in their search.  It is
generally a few photos at best...all in hopes that somewhere
someone will  recognize the child and contact authorities.
But many times photos are not enough...and the time it takes for parents, family members and friends to
compile the information gives a possible abductor more time to do the unthinkable with a child.  What can
we do from a preventive standpoint for parents?
Communities Fight Back
Texas F.S.C. has partnered with Fingerprint America to provide an invaluable weapon to
empower communities and law enforcement agencies in  protecting our children.  Project
1000 is an event conducted by the Texas F.S.C. in  communities across Texas. During this
event, parents are asked to bring their children and have them fingerprinted,
photographed, and DNA sampled free of charge.  The fingerprints, photo,  DNA sample,
and information are compiled into a kit which is then given to the parent to take home for
safe keeping. All parents have to do is periodically update the photo and put it in the kit.
Should the unthinkable ever happen, the parent has a ready-to-go info packet that provides authorities
with an invaluable tool to aid in the recovery of their child.

Project 1000 was designed to be a fun event for kids, parents, and the entire community, After going
through the identification process, there is generally entertainment for the kids - free food, games, and
events round out the event and make for a positive experience for all.
The costs for this event are shared by the Texas F.S.C. , local organizations, by members of the local
business community, and by donations  from the public.  Everyone works together, and the kids are the
BIG winners!
Help us bring a Project 1000 event to your community!

We are on a mission to identify every Texas child through this
process. And we’d love to bring this fantastic event to your
community. Here is how your business community and everyone
else can get involved:
  • Restaurant owners can donate and distribute free snacks for the attendees (i.e. hot dogs,
    hamburgers, etc.)
  • The school district can purchase and distribute the “It’s Okay to Tell” Buttons and brochures to
children in the classroom prior to the Project 1000 event (See our website for details).
  • The School district can also publicize the event through the district’s Public Information office
  • Other volunteer services that could be provided could be face paintings for kids, bounce houses,
    manning the stations, etc.
  • Public officials can also show support by volunteering their time to manning some of the stations at
    the event.
  • Providing a press release to the local media helps to publicize the event and sends a powerful
message to the community at large that our children and their families are being empowered with
    vital information and tools.
If you need additional information on how you can sponsor a successful Project 1000,
