Help is always nearby!
Perhaps the biggest concern in our lives today as parents is the
safety of our children. Kids are offered more choices, more
opportunities and are exposed to more information than ever
before. And many times they find themselves in situations where
they are pressured to make decisions regarding these
opportunities. What can we do as parents to help ensure that our
children remain as safe as possible from anyone or anything that
might hurt them?
The “It’s OKAY to TELL!”  button campaign was designed to remind children that they are never alone.
The button itself serves as a reminder to the child that there are people in their lives who can help them
(and you the parent) stay safe. It also sends a message to any would-be predators that this child has a
plan of action should he/she be confronted by anyone who makes them feel unsafe. It is the goal of the
Texas F.S.C. to distribute a button/brochure to every child in Texas.
A Message to all Kids - You Are Special!
Being a kid can be pretty awesome. New friends, new things to learn and do at
school, and exciting things to see in your neighborhood are all waiting for you. And
many times you have the chance to experience all of these things with other kids.
But you need to remember that there are people and places out there that are
not safe for you to be around. In fact, there may be people in your own area who
are waiting for an opportunity to hurt others. What can you do when you’re not
sure if you’re safe? Simple. TELL your parents, teacher, police officer, or
another trusted grownup about it. Remember, you are NEVER being a tattletale
when you tell on something that can hurt you or someone else. It’s OKAY to TELL!
IT’S OKAY to TELL if someone is trying to make you do something that you feel isn’t right, like leaving
with them, or taking something from them. TELL an adult you can trust.

IT’S OKAY TO TELL if someone tries to touch you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable or afraid.
TELL an adult you can trust.

IT’S OKAY TO TELL  someone if you feel unsafe or scared at any time. TELL an adult you can trust.

IT’S OKAY TO TELL a TRUSTED ADULT if someone is doing something that can hurt themselves or
someone else. THIS IS NOT TATTLING! This is being helpful.

IT’S OKAY TO TELL more than one trusted adult if you feel you need to. This can be your parents, a
trusted relative, a police officer, a teacher or counselor, or another TRUSTED ADULT.

IT’S OKAY TO TELL your brothers, sisters and friends how they can feel safer, too.
Always be proud of who you are, and never be afraid to take
care of yourself when you have to.

Always know where you can reach a trusted adult in an
emergency to let them know you need help.  If possible, talk to
your parents everyday and let them know how your day went.
Let them know how you took care of yourself, and let them
know if you felt unsafe during the day.
Remember to always try your best, do what you know is right, never stop following your dreams. And
whenever anyone tries to keep you from being the winner that you are, or tries to hurt you, just
remember...
