Facing the Issues

If we as a society wish to leave our children with a safer world, we must realize one
thing—the problem is here; the problem is now. We can no longer pretend that the
problem is somewhere else...it’s in our own backyard. To be angry about the problem and
to shed tears of sorrow is no longer enough. We must act! Our children—YOUR children,
need your help and financial commitment. They are our priceless treasures, and cannot
be replaced. In a perfect world, adults protect their children. Let’s give our children
back their childhood, while stopping others from robbing their innocence.

The Facts

According to the Department of Justice, 1 in 5 violent offenders serving time in state
prisons had been convicted of a crime against a victim under the age of 18, and more
than half of those crimes involved a victim 12 years or younger. And studies done on
adults indicate that as many as 1 in 3 girls were sexually abused before the age of 18 (1
in 6 for boys). And because most child victims are too naive, or too scared to say
anything, the majority of offenders go unpunished or even identified.
